@thehistoricalatheist: Why would clear evidence of God eliminate free will? Knowing someone exists doesn’t mean you must love them, trust them or obey them. People know governments exist and still oppose them. In the Bible, people who supposedly witnessed miracles could still disobey God. If God wants a relationship with humanity, clearer evidence could allow people to make informed decisions rather than guessing which religion is true. Divine hiddenness creates a serious problem for the claim that God loves everyone and wants everyone to know him. #DivineHiddenness #FreeWill #ChristianApologetics #ReligiousEvidence #Atheism

Except of course if the Christian God exists there is no such thing as free will. If God is all powerful and omniscient, possessing complete foreknowledge of the future, and the creator of all things, while orchestrating all events then human “choices” are already fixed, rendering independent, uncaused human free will logically impossible. While humans may pretend they are deliberating and “choosing” the final outcome of that deliberation is anchored entirely in the antecedent causes set by God.

The Bible states that He makes it plain to all men that He exists so they have no excuse

Not necessarily if you knew that god existed and you knew that the Bible was true and that you should live according to its word then the majority of people would feel like they had no free will because hell is no longer a maybe or something you hear about but don’t believe it becomes real and people would change their behavior to avoid punishment never realizing that even then they may not escape judgement unless they accept Jesus Christ they would definitely feel as if they had no choice even when the choice was so easy and because they spent their life doing that which they felt they had to with no choice they lacked the faith that would eventually save them in the end

The New Testament goes in the exact opposite direction in fact. The gospel of Matthew states that a voice spoke from the sky attesting to Jesus being the son of God, and that 500 people heard it, but some said it was only thundered. So the New Testament asserts that even the most clear and direct evidence possible wouldn't matter to some people. God could literally stand right there and talk to you and you would deny it.

If that’s true, then eternal punishment for not believing is off the table!

Its called faith in what we do not understand. Its called faith in believing and living a good life. Without the sin envolved. I sin everyday and am constantly asking for forgiveness. But it keeps me in check. It keeps me striving and surviving. Belive what you want im not your judge nor jury. God is not hidden if you believe he manifest himself in all that is good.

I agree for once. God showing Himself doesn’t effect freewill at all. God was among the people before the flood. Many of them saw Him and it didn’t matter. Jesus walked among the people and most of them denied Him. So you are right when you say, that clear evidence of God could exist, but has existed and that has not changed some people’s minds. However, that is not evidence of God hiding Himself, but people ignoring God.

No Thomas had faith that Jesus would return but the only way he would believe was if he could touch the nail scared hands and thrust his hand in his side eight days after the resurrection , jesus came to the upper room and called to thomas , specifically and told him to do those things and then Thomas declared, who Jesus was it wasn't that he didn't have faith in Jesus.he didn't believe jesus had returned that soon he was afraid that the pharisees and Sadducees were setting a trap to try and kill the disciples , look at what they've done to jesus. jesus appeared to them through a locked door. If they weren't scared why was the door locked? Peter told the people he did not knowing jesus three times before the rooster crew upon hearing the rooster, he remembered what Jesus told him see we all have doubts, from time to time thats why you pray and read your Bible but doubt is not Condemnation disbelief is condemnation

you can't open your eyes without seeing or feeling God... you see God is not a man who lives in the clouds... God is actually the energy from which we all came and will all return... everything that you behold is made of source material. I'm God. you're a God. we're all God. 💚

God showed himself to prophets in the Old Testament in various ways: a burning bush, the Angel of the Lord, in human form, etc, without interfering with free will. He appeared before Satan and yet Satan ultimately rejected God. The argument that God appearing before us as evidence of his existence interfering with our free will is not viable.

I guess Jesus was taking away free will, when he performed miracles. I guess god took away the Pharoes free will when he purposely hardened his heart. Nonsense

Considering most people wouldn’t be going to hell for purposely rejecting god, but instead would be going for just not being convinced he exists, revealing himself beyond a doubt would certainly save a lot of souls. Besides, the Egyptians didn’t start worshiping him after the plagues so it doesn’t force worship.
