@thesportsontap: Last season Charlie Becker made an obscene gesture at the Ohio State fan section on live television. His own father played linebacker for Ohio State. Saturday he walked out to midfield and apologized to Ryan Day for it. Here is the whole thing. He grew up an Ohio State fan, in Ohio, watching film of the team his dad had played for. Ohio State never really came after him. So he went to Indiana instead. And last season Indiana went undefeated and won the national championship, and Becker was their top playmaker. Which brings us to the Big Ten Championship. Indiana beat Ohio State in it. At the trophy presentation he got in front of a camera and started the O-H-I-O chant. Then he changed the letters. That clip went everywhere. It is the only thing a lot of people know about him. A year went by. Saturday, Ohio State came to Memorial Stadium. Becker caught nine passes for 165 yards, the most he has ever had in a game. Indiana lost anyway. Ohio State 19, Indiana 15. Beaten by the school that never wanted him, on the best day he has ever had on a football field, in front of his own crowd. And that is the moment he went looking for Ryan Day. Not in the tunnel. Not in a text that night. At midfield, with the cameras still running. "I'm really sorry about that." "That's not me, and I'm saying sorry to you and Ohio State." Day reached up, gave him a slap on the helmet, and let him go. Now the honest part. Becker is a projected first-round pick, and apologizing to a man that NFL teams are going to call about you is not the bravest act in the history of the sport. He also took a full year to do it. But nobody asked him to. The clip had long since burned out. And he did not do it quietly, which is the part that counts. He did it in the one place where it could not be a private favor to himself. Saturday he said it out loud to the one man it was aimed at. #CollegeFootball #cfbnews #cfb #indianafootball #indiana
