What this insight is telling me is that it’s a great time to buy a flat in London 😂

He would be almost quadrupled if he had that money in the stock market.

Commenting @antnee! :
The unfortunate truth of London leasehold ownership in the current market sadly. I lost £20k on my first flat, but was worth it as I sold to buy my house, which turned out to be a great buy.

Some dodgy maths here. A 25 yr mortgage on the 90% is £15,200 principal repayment per year; so (£425,000 - £42,500) / 25 x 8 = £122,400 repaid. Where does your £74,500 come from?

That’s crazy! At that loss they should have kept it and rented it out.

He hasn’t factored in that the seller was living there for 8 years

Can you explain why they only get £11k back if they paid over £74k for the mortgage

Except service charges aren’t 2k a yr, that was in year 1 in 2015, it’s £10,000 this yr alone for me in Fulham 2 bed flat , no concierge no amenities, 10 flats block !

Service Charges need regulatory caps and control.

£17k service charge?! Most I ever paid living in a flat was £2 a fortnight for the stair cleaner 😅

Even so a “loss” of £138k over 8 years is £1400pcm that’s still cheaper than renting a flat in Shepherd’s Bush

Agree it’s important to consider how long you’d be willing to keep a property for before buying it!

You’ve not lost 130k, because you needed to live somewhere for 8 years 🤣…. What you’re trying to tell us is renting is easier and now almost working out the same cost.
