theres a reason why they aren't calling them Aenocyon dirus, it's because it's just a big Grey wolf. it's cool to see how genetic modifications can be made but calling them dire wolves is entirely for publicity.

a lot of yall nitpicking this project should read up more on the intended outcomes. yes, technically its just a genetically modified grey wolf. but they were made to look and act like dire wolves, so for all intents and purposes, it is a dire wolf. the whole idea of the project isn't to make a genetically perfect copy, its to get a replica that would function the same way the original species would ecologically. they can apply this work with dire wolves to other endangered or recently extinct species so that their ecological roles can still be fulfilled, and the overall ecosystem can be sustained. it's actually a really really cool project that has a lot to do with environmental management. also the whole biotechnology and genetic modification part of this is still really complicated and really fucking cool. I can't wait to see what happens with the dodo birds

I’m curious as to why Khaleesi was spayed? I understand pack growth will happen elsewhere, but why cut out her specific trajectory? Unless they were unsatisfied with her genetics in her specifically or how she would impact future breeding if she was left un-spayed.
