Protectiveness is tragic, because yes it hurt Gollum, but if Sam hadn't been that protective of Frodo, they would never have succeeded for sure.

What he’s describing is what I’ve observed is the fundamental flaw in Humanity and why we don’t progress. Loving people overcorrect in protection of Love, and create an act of Fear, which creates the reflection of Anger and Hate in the other person suffering that overcorrection. Sam said “take your hands off” to protect Frodo, but it was an overcorrection. An act of Fear. Love is vulnerability. We did it with COVID, we’re doing it now in a million different ways. Good people thinking they’re protecting Love, but by pushing back too hard they are creating acts of Fear, that generate more Anger and Hate, which destroys Love.
