1. Delete LinkedIn and apply directly on company websites. I thought it was backwards isn't LinkedIn where the jobs are? But once I started applying straight from company career pages instead, everything changed. Fewer applicants, real jobs, actual replies. Note: I use CareerHound.io for this, it pulls the direct-from-company listings into one place, and I filter for "posted in the last 24 hours" so I'm always early. 2. Read a company's OTHER open roles before you apply. Sounded like a waste of time. But a company's job postings are literally them announcing their problems. If they're hiring 3 growth marketers, their problem is growth so I built my whole pitch around that. Works fast: skim their careers page, spot the pattern, tailor to the pain they're clearly feeling. 3. Message the hiring manager BEFORE you apply. Felt desperate, honestly. But I sent a 2-line message anyway "saw you're hiring for X, here's one thing I'd fix in the first 30 days" and they replied telling me to apply directly. Skipped the entire queue. The trick: keep it specific and short. No "I'm a hard worker." One real idea. 4. Put LESS on your resume, not more. I thought more experience = more impressive. But I cut mine to one page, matched it tightly to the job, and started actually hearing back. Turns out nobody was reading page two. I run mine through RezPass.com now it trims the fluff, matches the exact keywords, and makes sure it passes the ATS. 5. Apply to smaller companies 10 to 15 employees. I assumed big names were the goal. But at small companies, an actual human reads your application, not a robot filtering 800 people. My fastest interview ever came from a 12-person startup. How: target the small, actively-hiring ones way less competition, way faster replies. Save this for your next application. 🔖 What's the weirdest advice that worked for you?
