Add to this is that Nathan wrote the script of what “happened” based on his recollections… how accurate are they?

What I think is interesting is the discussion on if her acting in it makes it not a documentary. It’s almost “mixed” and I wonder if that ruins any kind of award noms. The Oscars are typically very strict on what gets considered a documentary.

I think it's so interesting the different levels of persuasion they each have too. Amanda is NAILS in her portrayal of Elizabeth in the documentary, but she pails in comparison to how persuasive Elizabeth actually is. That's just how intriguing she is as a conwoman and you can really see how she was able to talk all of these high up figures and investors into her scheme.

it was clesr in the movie that Amanda was a girls girl. she was still trying to do the right thing and support Elizabeth knowing what she knows

I also think Amanda has a bias in that she obviously gets defensive when she hears about the negative impacts that came from The Dropout. I think part of the doc’s point is that there’s always some kind of bias human beings bring to everything.

Also the reveal of Billy tweeting in her name for the sake of “I know she WOULD say this” with Amanda saying the same thing when Nathan asks her about the “it’s alright” scene in the show

its a good conversation but I wonder if its less Amanda being the actress as close to Elizabeth and more, a woman clocked the method of manipulation by another woman. such a fascinating movie. Best movie of the year

she honestly gave her best performance, specially in the jail scene, even when seeing everything behind the acting I was still so sucked into her performance for a minute I truly forgot she wasn't actually Elizabeth Holmes and that what we were watching was just a reenactment

About Amanda - it’s fascinating that she “isn’t corrupted” by Elizabeth but also is confronted and basically admits they filmed scenes for the dropout that probably were not based in objective reality (eg the “it’s cool the device exploded scene”), but “that’s okay because it’s TV” however it’s so easy for people to watch the tv show and take it as the truth

At first I was like “Amanda, why are you here?” then it morphed into “Oh, Amanda, you are HERE.” Loved her involvement in the film!

I imagined a scenario in which she plays her again in a future project and then someday nathan makes another doc abt the complicated lifelong relationship and interplay between actor and subject. Theyre intertwined forever

It’s crazy that I might come off defending Holmes. But honestly I don’t even know if I care but, it’s interesting in almost any other portrayal of a characters in a bio pic the actor usually try’s to do as much investigation and many actually like to talk to the person if possible. Even in some cases they speak with the subject if possible if they are a bad person. But in this case it’s looked at as “being corrupted”. It’s kind of odd. I couldn’t imagine an actor feeling it’s better to just get the cliff notes.
