We didn’t start with a farm. We didn’t have everything figured out. We were renters, learning as we went, trying things, failing at things, and slowly figuring out what kind of life we wanted to build for our family. And somewhere along the way, homesteading became so much more than growing food or raising animals. It became about slowing down. About knowing where our food comes from. About teaching our girls that food doesn’t just magically appear at the grocery store. About building something with our own hands. And, honestly, about finding a little more purpose in a season of life that was really hard for me. There were seasons where I questioned whether I could keep doing this. There were days when the work felt completely overwhelming, and I wondered why in the world I had chosen to make my life this much harder. 😂 But then I’d look around and realize… This is exactly what I was trying to build. It’s not perfect. I’m not 100% self-sufficient. I still buy plenty of things from the grocery store. And there are still a million things I want to learn and improve. But four years later, we have a garden that feeds our family, animals that provide food for us, land that we are slowly bringing back to life, and two little girls growing up learning what it means to work for something. And that means more to me than I can put into words. So if you’re looking at someone else’s homestead and thinking you’re too far behind, remember this: You’re not behind. You’re just at the beginning of your story. Start with the chickens. Start with the garden bed. Start with the tomato plant. Start wherever you are, with whatever you have. Because you truly have no idea where those first few little steps might take you. 🤍🌱 #homestead #gardening #meatrabbits #cows #ourstory
