And we hear about autistic adults living their whole childhood without knowing their diagnosis because their parents never told them, always wondering WHY they felt different. It’s not fair to them at all and I would never do that to my child.

People used to get uncomfortable when I would always bring my son to IEP meetings, I believed he had the right to be involved in decisions about him. I never had a genetic assessment done after his CP was diagnosed for the same reason, it wasn’t my choice to use his genetic information without his full legal adult consent.

I would have loved to know I was autistic as a kid...my daughter had such an "oh my gosh" moment once she got her diagnosis... when she's having trouble she says "oh, yeah, this is The Autism." it's been liberating for her...as a result she's reading better, understanding comprehension in context, and overall having a better quality of life.

My cousin was born prematurely and had cerebral palsy. My aunt never got her diagnosed or any special services and instead homeschooled her. (She was in Bill Gothard's IBLP cult)

Omg there was a parent at my school like this. His son was autistic and he didn’t want anyone to know. And then I told him I’m autistic and I fear I said the wrong thing cause then he thought his son should mask like I do. Meanwhile everyone at school knew there was something.

It sure didn't shock me as a disabled person and a former athlete (which caused some of my disabilities and severely impact my quality of life). I always thought it was just my psycho parents and family that all seem to hide diagnoses (like adhd, dyslexia, autism, injuries in us athletes, etc) because of their issue of them being perceived as weakness. when I became a coach, school counselor, college administrator and later a rare disease advocate..I couldn't believe how frequent it happens.

Dude i was in an autism ABA therapy thingy as a teen and I wasnt allowed to even utter the words “autism” around my peers because their parents didnt want them to know they were autistics. We were all a bunch of miserable lonely teens but I was the only one permitted the language to understand what was up. Still mad about that.

That’s what my daughter’s father’s stance is. He doesn’t want her to have accommodations. He wants her to prove she needs them. 😒 she already proved that during her evaluation 🤦🏻♀️

Where did you get the idea that he was tricked into playing? From the reports that I saw he was first found to have superficial blood clots in his calf (not DVTs) that then moved into deeper veins and finally was found to have clots in his lungs because the clots in his legs moved. With superficial blood clots it’s not contraindicated to stay physically active and they don’t always progress to DVTs.
