Even as an American I experience this. Thought the amount of butter in funeral potatoes was too much along with the cheese and sour cream. Tried to reduce it a bit and it was sadly not right.

My autistic son was traumatized by the hamburgers he ordered in Italy and now he’s always like “it’s not an Italian burger is it?” It was meatloaf on a bun.

Americans expect left overs. Foreigners assume that it 1 serving. Americans want value. To go containers are common because American sees left overs as value for their money. Foreigners assume it is a challenge to finish it all.

it’s the SEASONINGS, we season our food and every ethnicity has elevated and altered their original recipes that are unique to the states in every cuisine.

I’m just confused as to why American food is totally synonymous with only fast food or really rich, fatty foods. Yes, those exist and are American, I get it. But there’s real culinary innovation and a huge diversity of food cultures here. Some of the best restaurants in the world are here and there’s incredible cultural fusion cuisines that you cannot get anywhere else in the world. It’s weird

As an adult, I make most things from scratch. It never tastes like how I remembered it. Then I finally got the recipe handed down—canned and prepackaged! No wonder it tasted off

I made shrimp etouffee with 4 sticks of butter last weekend. I had a fleeting thought that maybe it was too much butter. It was not too much butter.

Honestly, that much butter and heavy cream sounds very French.
We also love lard and other oils.
