@braveheartsequine: 💔🐴 SOMETIMES THE BIGGEST BATTLES ARE THE ONES WE CAN’T SEE. We promised you a closer look at what’s happening with our newest rescue, Amber. And unfortunately, her medical challenges go beyond what we initially knew. ❤️‍🩹 As we shared, Amber has a dead tooth that needs to be extracted. But what should have been a relatively straightforward dental procedure has become more complicated. 🩺 Here’s what we’re dealing with: Amber has an irregular heartbeat, known as a heart arrhythmia. Because sedation carries additional risks for horses with certain heart conditions, we made the decision to postpone her tooth extraction until we have a clearer picture of her overall health. But that’s not all. 💔 Amber has also developed noticeable swelling along her abdomen, raising concerns about possible fluid accumulation. One possibility is that her heart isn’t pumping efficiently enough, causing fluid to build up. Right now, we don’t have an answer. And that’s why our next steps are so important. 🔬 THE PLAN: Our veterinary team is pursuing bloodwork and an ultrasound to better evaluate her heart function, investigate the swelling, and determine what treatments her body can safely tolerate. We’re also adding her to the periodontal treatment list to address her ongoing dental needs when it’s safe to do so. For a horse already struggling with poor body condition, these additional complications make her recovery especially delicate. ❤️ This is the side of rescue you don’t always see. The veterinary consultations, the difficult decisions, the diagnostic testing, and the careful balancing of one medical concern against another. We wish we could fix everything for Amber at once. But right now, helping her means being patient, finding answers, and making sure every decision puts her well-being first.
