@mlivenews: Harry Houdini was running a high fever and suffering from severe abdominal pain as he prepared to perform the illusions that had made him one of the world’s most famous entertainers. But on Oct. 24, 1926, the legendary escape artist stepped onto the stage of Detroit’s Garrick Theatre anyway. The audience had come to see a master magician. Few knew they were witnessing his final performance. A week later, on Halloween, Houdini was dead at age 52.
