California Woman Charged After Fatal Utah Crash Linked to Alleged Phone Use A 44-year-old California woman has been charged with automobile homicide following a three-vehicle crash in Utah that killed a 66-year-old man. Investigators allege that she was using her phone to access a pornography website shortly before the collision. Christine Chao, of Rosemead, California, faces a second-degree felony charge in connection with the crash on June 12, 2026, along Interstate 15 near Levan, Utah. According to charging documents, traffic had slowed because of road construction when Chao’s blue SUV allegedly struck the rear of a white sedan. The force of the impact pushed the sedan into another vehicle, and all three vehicles left the roadway. Scott LaVar Lichfield, a 66-year-old passenger in the sedan and a resident of Fillmore, Utah, suffered serious injuries in the collision. He later died. As part of their investigation, authorities seized Chao’s phone and obtained a warrant to examine its contents. Investigators reportedly found that the device had accessed a website commonly used to watch pornographic videos less than two minutes before the crash. Authorities also reportedly found no tire marks indicating that brakes had been applied before the collision. Investigators cited this finding as part of the circumstances surrounding the crash. According to the account, Chao told officers at the scene that she was at fault. The charge stems from the fatal collision and the allegations surrounding her phone use. The allegations remain subject to the legal process, and a criminal charge is not a finding of guilt. #collision , #roadconstruction , #California , #utah , #criminalcharges ,
