Ehhh nah I don’t think this is true for everyone. For a lot of bad people, forgiveness is a mercy so that they can feel less guilty and forget the pain they caused as if it never happened. Some people don’t deserve forgiveness, and I feel more peaceful knowing they don’t get that privilege from me. I’m not suffering, nor am I holding crippling resentment. I’ve let go of my pain while also withholding their satisfaction of being free from guilt.

Maybe what he explains need a new word. For me, forgiving means that you will be ok with the person and what they did to you. Maybe we need a new word more like acceptance what happend and move on. 😂

I still don’t like the term forgive in this situation. I accepted that my narcissistic mother didn’t have any parenting from her parents and she couldn’t do more than she did. I just decided to let that go and move on as I as well as a parent have things about me that I cannot change and that prevents me from giving my kids things that they want from me.

this is one of the most complicated topics to talk about. like, what does even forgive means? if it doesn't mean approval or letting the person in again? I can cut someone off, and don't ever think about them but if you ask me about what they did, I know that is fucked up and I would never let them back in. so maybe forgiving only means emotionally detach from what they did to you, and move on?

This lesson was interesting in Avatar the Last Airbender. Aang asked if Katara forgived the man who unalived her mother after she faced him. She said. "I didn't forgive him. I'll never forgive him." She accepted that. But Zuko? Who made amends? She forgave him. Zuko made rhe effort. The guy who harmed her tried to get his mother harmed in exchange for his own safety. Katara found closure.
