I keep seeing people say she was older in the books but that's irrelevant. she was 18. and she married a man 10 or so years older than her who was also the king and had absolute power and control over her. that's not okay. she was surrounded by old men telling her how she should act and basically raised to uphold the system bc that was the only way she vould survive. on her own, she had no power and her fate had always been in someone else's hands wether it was her dad, her husband and then her son. that's the shitty reality of women in westeros. what alicent did was learn how everything worked and make a better situation for herself and try to maintain that power. sure it was wrong, but while she could potentially trust that Rhaenyra won't bring harm to her abd her kids, Daemon was a different story. again, her fate would hang in the hands of another man.

The show created so many reasons for team green to hate and fight against the blacks and they STILL fumbled the family and made them hate one another. Even going as far as making Alicent team Rhaenyra bc apparently “she was wrong about everything and never had a reason to hate the blacks”

Victim in what sense? In the series she's very idealized, you might be able to feel compassion for her character IN THE SERIES, but in the book it's completely different.

Alicent Hightower is a victim when it comes to her marriage to Viserys, in both show and book. Yes the show made her 4 years younger but people forget in F&B she was only 18 years old when she married the 30 year old Viserys. Not only that, but there were rumours that the two were seeing each other before Aemma's death. This fandom has a tendency to defend the pedo brothers a little too much, it's the same thing with Daemon, mention that he groomed Rhaenyra and you'll be lynched. You can dislike both Alicent and Rhaenyra BUT defending their marriages to these gross men is deplorable
