Man my actual
Man my actual "upper day" reel is going around and people are big mad and pressed over how little volume I do. So let's back up on this a bit because there's so many people who keep saying that's not enough volume to grow or to grow maximally. It is FOR ME. Your mileage may vary. 1. We know that 1 set done twice a week will cause growth IN TRAINED SUBJECTS 2. We know that 3 sets done twice a week will actually cause substantial growth in trained subjects PMID: 40249908 3. Krieger's 2010 meta-analysis found significant differences in muscle growth when comparing 2-3 sets to 1 set, but no significant differences were observed when comparing 2-3 sets versus 4-6 sets. 4. What about the Schoenfeld meta? There was no statistical difference between +9 sets vs less than 9 sets. Only a TREND. And removing one influential study (Radaelli et al. 2014) weakened the <9 vs. 9+ trend further (P=0.12), with gains becoming 5.9% vs. 8.0%. 5. "What about Pelland?" Well the recent study by Steele found that 9 fractional sets produced just as much growth as 36 fractional sets for the week DOI:10.51224/SportRxiv.810 For years there I was doing 5-6 sets for a muscle per session and everyone kept saying "if Paul's methods work so well why hasn't he gained muscle in a long time?" Then I did this..... Took sets down from 5-6 to 2-3 twice a week Stopped training to failure Stopped chasing a pump or doing high rep bullshit Stop doing drop sets and other dumb intensifiers Only trained in the 4-8 rep range and focused on double progression I haven't done a cycle in 11 years. And everyone in my groups makes SIMILAR GAINS. People do have to find what works for them indeed. Which I've done
