@thatguy__401: Woonsocket, R.I. - October 18, 2026 Woonsocket Police and Fire responded to a serious single vehicle crash near Cote Avenue and Elm Street yesterdy, Sunday October 18 at around 1:40 a.m.. Two occupants were critically injured and required extensive extrication. According to Police Chief Thomas Oates, the driver was a 25-year-old woman and the passenger a 27-year-old man. The male was transported by rescue the female was airlifted. UMass Memorial LifeFlight responded to Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket. Woonsocket rescue transported LifeFlight medics directly to the crash scene to provide additional care to the driver while being extricated and en route to the hospital. I witnessed first responders working quickly and carefully to free both occupants. The driver's extrication took considerably longer because of the extensive damage to the front end of the vehicle. Chief Oates said the Woonsocket Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating the cause of the crash. With two people critically injured, commentay with criticism, assumptions or speculation is not needed as we don't know the cause. Witnessing this response reinforced how essential it is for first responders to have modern equipment, specialized tools, technology and vehicles to perform lifesaving work. This was also the first time I personally witnessed a LifeFlight response. Seeing firefighters extricate patients, specialized medics provide care, and dispatch coordinate resources was a powerful reminder of what our region has available and what we must continue to fund. Cities and towns often discuss the cost of emergency services, and headlines can focus on those costs. But incidents like this remind us that saving lives has no dollar value. My greatest concern remains with both individuals. I sincerely hope they make a full recovery. Praying for both individuals and their families.
