I think it’s Nathan being Nathan’s character. She never fooled him. He’s so clever.

They mentioned he went through a breakup. I wonder if he was actively dating someone during the time he lived with liz and her family

i think what’s interesting is you can make the point that both of them are “playing characters” but i do think the entire ending sequence culminating with the ocean scene at the end is to show nathan is implicated

The thing about Nathan Fielder is you’re never gonna know if you’re getting authentic Nathan or not and that is the genius of Nathan

nathan invented a character for "Nathan for you" and in making that show discovered the power that character had in getting people to open up. He comes off so insecure and needing love and reassurance that his subjects try to give him something. The rehearsal was just an evolution on that, seeing how far he can get people to go in totally bizarre situations with this character. so he repeated that pattern in the documentary, because he already knows it works

You Can See Everything is a 3 hour long documentary where every person is playing a character and the line between reality and fiction is extremely blurred despite the evidence of what happened

Nathan is an incredibly fascinating person in his own right which doubles the impact of the movie. Two people who move through the world in incredibly unique ways interacting with each other

This is why knowing Nathan’s work is SO IMPORTANT to getting the most out of this documentary!! You can definitely enjoy it on some level without that knowledge, but you’re going to miss an immense amount of context that is so important n

I would say The Curse is an even better example of how he feels about difficult people. emma stone's character was a covert narcissist but he gave her a lot of layers and it was sort of implied towards the end that she was good in a way, just only knew how to show it selfishly bc of her upbringing. it also made a point that his character in the curse still found her so admirable that it led to him making real changes in his life. I think Nathan has an obsession with communication difficulties bc he himself has them, so he can tap into people's performance and play around in it to find the core

I haven't seen this doc yet but people really need to watch Nathan's other stuff before they watch this or else they'll be really confused about him I know that for sure lmfao

Haven't seen it yet, but as soon as I heard the rumors that he was visiting her in prison when the Rehearsal S2 was showing I knew immediately why he'd be fascinated with doing a project about her. She is basically doing what he does on TV for laughs turned up to 10, with much higher stakes, and with much more dire consequences

I don’t know. I read the “Wired” interview with him this morning and he said he never planned to be IN the film, but Elizabeth and Billy kept talking to him and asking him questions so he felt he had to.

I think anyone who would have to spend time with Billy would feel a lil bad from Holmes, even if she’s a covert narcissist she’s still walking on a tight rope with that man he’s dangerous af

I don’t know the last bit where he says “why would I protect her” felt really like his character. everything else felt authentic besides that line it felt distinctly different like his character in nathan for you

I think Nathan going soft on her for the purpose of the message of the doc and misleading the audience is something he does in a lot of his work. I would recommend listening to his comparison between being a creator and being a magician in the s2 finale of The Rehearsal. What happens at the end between Nathan and Amanda I think is also meant to pose a question to the audience on how objective we're being towards Liz as well. The stuff about Billy posting as her on Twitter feels jarring and Nathan points out it doesn't sound like something she'd say. But why do we feel we know her better because of a 90 minute act of a documentary than her husband? Are we also giving her more of a benefit of the doubt on who she really is just because we've seen how awful Billy is? Well obviously that's the real her, because both Nathan and the audience were promised we could see everything. Except maybe the "can" in the title is meant the same way Liz's device "can" run any test and the reality is we only saw what she wanted us to see.

I feel like hes playing a character to an extent and that 'character' feels a kinship with holmes. I don't know if he 'loves' her but he'd certainly grown to care for her enough to defend her and assert what he thought she would want.

See i always viewed nathan’s character as manipulative. He gravitates toward quirky people and plays into his unassuming nature so his “target” feels they can fly their freak flag, which is fine but Nathan knows he is creating a storyline and his target is not always aware.
