I find that in my career, this skill has played against me more often than it served me well. Trying to align systems, drawing focus on causality and not symptoms, point out what's causing the problem upstream, or warn about downstream incoming problem, or transversal consideration to manage, etc. It may be communication style, it may be hierarchical level, credibility, power dynamics or ego of some individuals attached to the sources of the challenges but no matter how well intentioned I am to help and warned, it frequently fired back at me.
