JOWLS? START WITH YOUR NECK! 😳 What if some of the heaviness, puffiness and loss of definition you're seeing in your face isn't just about collagen loss? What if you've been focusing exclusively on your skin while ignoring the muscles, fascia, circulation and lymphatic system underneath it? This is one of the reasons I believe Functional Beauty needs to go beyond skincare. Your face doesn't exist independently of your neck and scalp. These structures are connected through layers of muscles and connective tissue. And while jowls and nasolabial folds are influenced by genetics, changes in facial fat, bone structure and skin elasticity, muscle tension and fluid retention can also influence how your face looks. Here's the routine I use to address those factors. 1️⃣ START WITH YOUR NECK. BEFORE YOUR FACE! Three movements, one minute each: ✔️ YES: Gently nod your head up and down for one minute. ✔️ NO: Slowly rotate your head from side to side for one minute. ✔️ NECK TILTS: Tilt your head toward each shoulder, holding gently for 30 seconds per side. Move slowly, without forcing your range of motion. Why start here? Your neck muscles influence head posture and movement, and the neck contains important pathways involved in lymphatic drainage from the head and face. Reducing stiffness and improving mobility is a sensible starting point before facial massage. 2️⃣ VIBRATING GLOBES | RELEASE FACIAL TENSION I work gently along the jawline, cheeks and neck. Massage and vibration can help relax tense muscles, stimulate local blood flow and temporarily improve the appearance of puffiness. I especially love this around the jaw, where so many of us hold tension without realizing it. 3️⃣ VIBRATING BAR | SOFTEN EXPRESSION LINES This is one of my favorite tools! I use it on areas where repetitive muscle contractions create dynamic expression lines, particularly the forehead, between the eyebrows and around the mouth. Gentle vibration and massage may temporarily relax facial tension and soften the appearance of these lines. The goal isn't to paralyze facial muscles. It's to encourage relaxation and mobility. 4️⃣ COOLING GLOBES | DEPUFF + REFRESH If you wake up with a puffy face, pay attention to this step. Cooling can temporarily reduce the appearance of swelling, while very gentle massage may encourage movement of superficial fluid. I concentrate on the cheeks and around the orbital bone, avoiding pressure directly on the eyes. Lymphatic drainage doesn't require aggressive pressure. Gentle is better. 5️⃣ FASCIA SPARK | STIMULATE + MASSAGE This textured ball allows me to massage areas of facial tension. I use light pressure and controlled movements rather than aggressively digging into the tissues. The goal is to encourage comfortable movement and stimulate the superficial tissues, not create inflammation. 6️⃣ TOOTHED GUA SHA | DON'T FORGET YOUR SCALP! Your scalp deserves attention too! The forehead, scalp and neck are linked through muscles and connective tissue. WHY I BELIEVE IN THIS APPROACH Facial aging is more complex than collagen loss. It involves changes in skin, muscle, connective tissue, fat distribution, bone structure and circulation. Practitioners of facial massage, yoga and manual therapy have long observed improvements in facial tension, puffiness and appearance through consistent tissue work. Not every reported lifting effect has been established in clinical trials, and massage cannot restore lost bone or facial fat. But that doesn't mean tissue mobility, circulation and muscle relaxation should be ignored. I would rather support healthy tissue function consistently than assume every visible change requires an invasive procedure. THE BEAUTY DOCTRINE PHILOSOPHY: Treat the skin. Support the muscles. Encourage circulation. Respect the fascia. Think beyond the surface. #FacialFascia #FacialMassage #LymphaticDrainage #Jowls #FunctionalBeauty
