@sfchronicle: Bayview-Hunters Point has one of the San Francisco’s fastest-growing Chinese communities, with a population that is about 27% Chinese based on U.S. census data collected from 2020 to 2024, the most recent numbers available. The neighboring Portola is almost 46% Chinese. The changes are part of a larger shift in San Francisco’s Chinese population, which has remained steady at a little more than 20% over the past two decades, but has declined in historically Chinese enclaves like Chinatown and the Richmond and Sunset districts. Instead, many families have followed relatively affordable housing prices to the city’s southeast neighborhoods — creating a new Chinatown in Portola and the Bayview. 🎥: Joy Jihyun Jeong, Florence Shen/S.F. It sounds like gentrification but they’re framing it in a positive way lol

This is Portola neighborhood which is closer to Sunnydale than it is to Bayview. Freeway 101 divides bayview and portola districts

This is the portola. I grew up on Sweeny, and always went to that market. It is not the bayview.

San Bruno borders both Bayview and Sunnydale, depending on which end you’re on. It was hella different back in the 80s and 90s.

The aerial shots are Bayview, but yeah, you’re really stretching saying that San Bruno is part of the Bayview

Sorry but like everyone else said this is factually incorrect. Those businesses are in the portola which isn’t predominantly black or at least wasn’t when I grew up there in the 2000s and 2010s. Bayview is across the freeway. Also calling it a little chinatown is a stretch—there are a lot of chinese businesses but there’s also a lot of other businesses as well.
