Maybe for some. To me the recipe to being a sudo intellectual is basically someone who provides video essay type knowledge. You borrow thought from others, provide “I’m 13 and this is deep” commentary on it, usually well spoken, but ultimately the peak of their intellectual capacity is maybe a philosophy degree. Being educated on the advanced thoughts of others doesn’t make you an advanced thinker. Think about “Gifted” programs, the intention behind those isn’t to find the students with the best grades, it’s to find students that genuinely think at a higher capacity wether that is reflected in their academic performance or not.

I use pseudo-intellectual to refer to people giving a performance. They're trying to perform intellectual rigour, but not providing it in substance. Is that not what people mean by the term? As an example, I consider the general discourse around "I shouldn't have to explain nuance, it's implied" to be pseudo-intellectual. Instead, they attack people bringing nuance of using "whataboutism" fallacy, while simultaneously engaging in the fallacy fallacy themselves.
