@omnisyntra: Everyone wants to know how to recover from autistic burnout. You probably won't like my answer. 😂 Recovery takes work, but not the kind of work that put you into burnout in the first place. It's ecological. You have to understand the conditions that made your life unsustainable and begin changing what you can. I can tell you what worked for me, but your ecology isn't mine. There is no universal recovery protocol. Same human, different ecology. #AutisticBurnout #ActuallyAutistic #CognitiveEcology #BurnoutRecovery #Neurodiversity
Unfortunately 8 out of 8 times it was having a job that put me into burnout 🙃🙃 idk anymore

It means telling others who are used to access to me no longer get it.

It’s functional freeze.. you have to empower your metacognition, it’s stalled. Empowering your autonomy is the only way out.

I've been in burnout for 2 years. I don't know how to change my ecology without money. I'm disabled, poor and have no support except for my son. When I was diagnosed last year they offered no resources in my area for adults.

I'm in burnout now and have just started to feel like I'm learning what aspects of my life have been pulling me back here. I'm scared, because I don't want to be stuck here forever, but I'm working to figure out what I need to change. This video was really validating. 🥹

I needed to hear that. I didn't think about it that way. I was thinking to do all the work so I can be back to "normal". but what you said just made so much sense. exactly, why would you do all that work just to go back to all the things that got you there and will probably get you back faster. oh man... this means I definitely have to get over my fear and embarrassment about my stims and inability to mask, the lack of eye contact and going non verbal, my filter is off. it's hard to just not feel embarrassed but I'm trying. I feel like I lost my social safety net, even with my family. and to realize that I won't be able to keep repeating the same masking and trying to fit myself in a mold I don't fit in is scary. I have to learn to be ok with the me that I always try to hide and stuff down and ignore. she really won't let me ignore her needs anymore

It's triggered by work for me. I keep moving jobs, but it doesn't seem to help, and I can't afford to not work 🫠

I would still be interested in hearing some of the examples of how you managed through and out of your autistic burnouts. It feels like I’m just making stuff up and stumbling through the dark within this most of the time. And though your life/resources/brain/body/history/ecology are not mine, we may share some commonalities and it could be really helpful to hear some things that you did that I may not even know to be considering 💗

I am an AuDHD therapist who has been burnt out many times and I 100% agree with what you are saying here. I help others through burnout recovery and it is hard. You have to change so many things to reduce demand internally and in your environment. And it takes time.

I learnt a lot from the last time.. leaving/sick leave didn’t help the way I thought it would.. I have put more input into having systems that support me week to week.. working less hours.. when to take steps back or focus on basic needs/tasks..

allowing myself to grieve the prior version of me has been very hard, I still find myself comparing but setting boundaries with myself and OTHERS has helped so much! thank you for sharing

I personally don't try to fix the burnout, I let it come and then start new again. I keep doing mandatory things till my burnout makes me walk away from the problem entirely. If it's burning me out, it was never going to work at a neurotypical pace anyway. Sooner than later I will have to walk away. So I might as well stay till gets really bad. Rinse and repeat 💯 2 steps forward and 1 back does eventually get you somewhere anyways. That's all that matters.

Me, having 3 different sheets to track my life and collect data. My therapist loves how much I work on it by myself. Right now the hardest is, that I need to force myself to stop! Force myself to not do things I want to do - just because they are too much at the moment or the sum of things I want to do is too much!
