In 100 years, someone is going to be digging in the same hole and come across all of your lost shovels and be so stoked over the ancient relics.

You could make a mosaic outdoor table with all those plate pieces you find.

Call a utilities locator service. They can come mark the yard and possibly tell you what it is. Also with the yard marked you can avoid other things like electricity ⚡️⚡️

Ummm honey that’s an old sewer waste line …it is highly consistent with infrastructure typical of older properties.
Depending on the age of the property, underground lines like this are typically made from a few common materials:
• Clay / Terra-Cotta: Very common in homes built before the 1960s or 1970s. They are thick, round, and prone to cracking or taking on tree roots over time.
