My Calculus Recitation instructor taught me this; “You are not here to understand math, if you were here to understand math then you would be a math major, not engineering majors. The reason you need calculus is to understand your engineering courses, so instead of trying to understand how it works, just learn how to do it. You are here to do math.”

Use flashcards to memorize formulas. Not only is it very efficient, but it's active recall, meaning you'll retain that information when it comes time for exams
