@heydoranne: In 1838, Louis Daguerre captured what are believed to be the first human figures ever photographed, on the Boulevard du Temple in Paris. The exposure was so long that the moving crowds vanished. Only a man having his shoes polished, and possibly the person polishing them, remained visible. I’ve always been drawn to photography’s ability to reveal the extraordinary in ordinary moments. Photography’s earliest human subjects weren’t trying to be remembered. They were simply living their lives. Maybe that’s what I love about photography: its ability to find permanence in the fleeting, meaning in the mundane, and a connection across centuries between complete strangers.
