@therapistinrecovery: ARFID is not a very well known eating disorder because it’s not typical. It’s not about body image and goes beyond “picky eating”. Without understanding and treatment, the fear is often made worse as someone avoids more and more foods that create discomfort for them leading to what many describe as a prison and paralysis around meals. They are often very misunderstood by loved ones who don’t understand why they can’t “just eat”. This analogy helped me develop empathy and understanding which is so important when I’m working with something I don’t personally experience. Maybe it can help your loved ones too? What do you guys think? 🍆💦 #arfidawareness #arfidrecovery #pickyeater #ocdawareness #obsessivecompulsivedisorder
Kind of. They both definitely include that dread-like feeling. If it helps others be more empathetic, then obviously that’s good. But there’s added pressure with ARFID because if I don’t eat, I die. I could realistically never have sex again if I really didn’t want to. Just my immediate thoughts as someone with ARFID and as a woman.
