@takingcare_ofgranny: Another struggle with dementia is finding the perfect balance in how much medication for her. Dementia sucks. #fyp #caregiver #dementia
I say this with nothing but love, respect and admiration. One things I wish I had done when caring for my grandparents with dementia was stop pushing them to "keep what skills they had". I put so much pressure on encouraging them to get up when they wanted to stay in bed, trying to force them to eat when they refused. I wish I would have been more accepting of the bodys way of shutting down and let go of the guilt I felt to keep them going. I would have focused more on their comfort than what I felt like I could be doing ❤️We love you Granny

Let her sleep. She’s at end of life. Making her body do something other than what ifs supposed to at this stage is cruel. I wish I would have let go sooner than I did. I regret it deeply.

Today, this morning, then again at noon was the last day I tried, or ever will again try to coax my Aunt out bed. She said in her clearest non dementia voice, I'm tired, just so tired, do I have to? No Mam, you do not. She's 96, she will be so missed but it's time to say goodbye.

@Ilovefood :
Do you think her quality of life is better forcing her to be awake and walking or keeping her calm and comfortable with medication? I know which I would want for myself, and I chose the same for my grandparents

Not sure if Granny would tolerate it or not but a gait belt might be a good idea......signed, A Concerned Physical Therapist❤️

Just give her meds and let her body do what it needs to do. Don't push her.

I just lost my 84 year old dad in August. I say as much meds as it takes. My dad was on hospice and had dementia for the last 9 months of his life. He would have hated every moment of his last months if he was of sound mind. 🙏

I'm glad you got an electric bed. they are so convenient. Sometimes even a quarter of a grain/ gram can make a difference in the med strength.

May I ask would the medication take a little adjusting to for her perhaps or have you been doing that .. lastly could a walker be more stable for her to use and safer for the her helper . So sorry I know her name I’m just drawing a blank 🙈

Ms. P :
I'm a caregiver and I make sure that all my patients whether their Dementia or not use a Walker. or I will teach them the liability of a patient grabbing you pulling on you and leaning on you is more of risk
