@lifewithsonduren: Three men convicted of brutally murdering an elderly Abbotsford couple, Arnold and Joanne De Jong, are seeking the ability to apply for parole after 15 years than the standard 25-year eligibility period. The couple, aged 77 and 76, were killed during a planned home invasion in 2022. Arnold was suffocated with duct tape wrapped around his head, while Joanne was beaten and had her throat slashed with a screwdriver. Justice Brenda Brown ruled that excluding multiple murderers from the so-called “faint-hope” parole provisions violates Charter protections against cruel and unusual punishment.
