@the_elsewhere_index: The coffee is perfect. The conversation is pleasant. And for the first time in recent memory, not a single disagreement disturbs the breakfast table. One might call this domestic bliss. Our tenant has a rather different opinion. Yesterday, in a fit of anger, he committed a most unfortunate sentence to paper. A sentence he thought better of. A sentence he crumpled up and threw away. The matter, he believed, was finished. But in this particular apartment building, management appears to have a rather unusual understanding of privacy. And an even more unusual approach to customer satisfaction. Today, his wife seems to anticipate his every desire. She smiles at things she once disliked. Agrees with opinions she would once have challenged. And offers not so much as a whisper of disagreement. The man who wished so desperately to be understood now finds himself longing for the simple, reassuring comfort of being contradicted. For there is a considerable difference between living beside someone who loves you... And living beside the answer to a question you should never have asked.
