It looks like they used an adhesive to glue down the foam padding under the carpet. Because it’s hard to shoot staples into oak. You’re going to have to get a floor sander to get that off

if its kind of sticky use WD40 ( not sure if u get that in america) it really helps to remove it but need to vent the room and use a face mask

when we pulled up our carpet we found cigarette butt's. Plus we had the chimney guy come to clean the chimneys only the both chimneys were stuffed with carpet rolls. Thank god we had them come, it was October and that was how we wanted to heat our home.
