I live near a nestle plant, it is illegal for us to collect rain water. It all belongs to them. Our neighbors paid a really hefty fine! It’s so sad.

as a Permaculture designer, as I was designing a client's land in Texas, I discovered if you catch water on your property you get property tax exemptions. Colorado is the only heavily regulated state.

or you have the pipe going to the basement and then you can have as many gallons as you want. just have one fake drum covering the input pipe to the house.

but if you're watering plants only, the bird droppings can give easy fertilizer as it's rich in nitrogen

Weird how people are limited on how much you can collect?? Here in Texas I have 5, 275 gallon barrels lined up. fully protected from mosquitos and everything. 🤷🏽♂️

Ok but if this water is just going to be used for my plants, do I really need the other pipe to filter out bird droppings and what not?

No states outlaw rainwater collection, it’s a myth. There are some states where it’s regulated, and it’s either a) a really dry state, where you have to think about the watershed or b) states that recognize most people won’t collect it the right way and will probably die from drinking bad water

Love the ingenuity, don’t get me wrong (conservation is great) but this setup is essentially watering a garden that’s already being rained on. Yes?
