@lostson350: People often ask me how to spot a narcissist. The truth is, you usually won't know in the first week. Many narcissistic people are charming, attentive, and incredibly likeable when you first meet them. The easiest way to spot them isn't by how they treat you when everything is going well. It's by watching what happens the first time you disappoint them, disagree with them, or tell them no. That's when their real character often starts to show. Here are 10 things to watch for. --- 1️⃣ THEY CAN'T HANDLE BEING TOLD "NO" You tell them you can't meet today. You disagree with them. You set a boundary. Instead of respecting it, they become angry, sulk, guilt-trip you, or try to change your mind. Healthy people may feel disappointed. Narcissistic people often feel entitled. --- 2️⃣ THEY TURN EVERY CONFLICT INTO YOUR FAULT You bring up something they did that hurt you. Ten minutes later, you're defending yourself instead. Somehow the conversation becomes about your tone, your timing, or your reaction instead of what they actually did. --- 3️⃣ THEY STRUGGLE TO APOLOGIZE A genuine apology sounds like, "I was wrong. I'm sorry." A manipulative apology sounds like, "I'm sorry you feel that way," or, "If you hadn't done this, I wouldn't have reacted like that." Notice the difference. One accepts responsibility. The other avoids it. --- 4️⃣ THEY NEED TO FEEL SUPERIOR Whether it's correcting you in front of other people, constantly one-upping your stories, or making subtle comments that leave you feeling small, they seem most comfortable when they're above you rather than beside you. --- 5️⃣ THEY LACK GENUINE EMPATHY They may say the right words, but when you're hurting, the conversation quickly becomes about them. Your pain feels inconvenient unless it somehow affects them. --- 6️⃣ THEY LOVE YOU WHEN YOU AGREE WITH THEM Everything feels amazing while you're making them happy. The moment you disagree, challenge them, or stop giving them what they want, the warmth disappears. Their affection often feels conditional. --- 7️⃣ THEY MAKE YOU QUESTION YOURSELF After every disagreement, you leave wondering whether you were too sensitive, too emotional, or expecting too much. Over time, you stop trusting your own judgment and start relying on theirs. --- 8️⃣ THEY CARE A LOT ABOUT HOW THEY LOOK TO OTHER PEOPLE In public, they're charming. Helpful. Funny. Everyone loves them. At home, you're dealing with a completely different person. That's why so many victims struggle to explain what they're experiencing because nobody else sees it. --- 9️⃣ THEY HATE ACCOUNTABILITY Whenever they're confronted, there's always a reason. Someone else caused it. You misunderstood. The timing wasn't right. The circumstances made them do it. Taking responsibility is incredibly difficult for them. --- 🔟 YOU FEEL MORE CONFUSED THAN PEACEFUL This is probably the biggest sign. Healthy relationships aren't perfect, but they generally bring clarity and emotional safety. Manipulative relationships leave you constantly analysing conversations, doubting yourself, and wondering where you stand. That confusion isn't something to ignore. --- One thing I've learned is that you don't spot a narcissist by how intensely they love you at the beginning. You spot them by how they respond when they don't get their way. That's why boundaries are so important. They don't just protect your peace. They reveal people's character. --- Which of these have you ever ignored?
