@_eliananana: It doesn’t matter how fit, active, “healthy,” wealthy, successful, or connected you are — people from all walks of life are affected by #longcovid #mecfs #potssyndrome #chronicillness [athletes with long covid]
She risked a lot for this interview. I’m forever grateful for her sacrifice and for bringing attention to this disease. She’s helping so many people.

From the article:
"A lot of people that have this illness that I've spoken to have said to me 'I don't get believed, people think I'm lazy'. I've never experienced one person that doesn't believe me and that's because, why would an athlete just suddenly stop after 20 years? "

Majority of doctors treat me like my ME is a choice/laziness. Yet another neurologist told me yesterday that I just need to build my stamina. I feel so alone and so hopeless.

The indiscriminate nature of disautonomic diseases is so upsetting. I've seen your content and understand the amount of research you do. Have you found out if there is anything in common with those who have come down with these conditions that could have been prevented? I know that professionals say that conditions like MECFS are idiopathic but I was just curious to hear your take ❤️

I was a gym ambassador, lifting 5x / week, cardio 6x a week and working full time. already had several chronic illnesses. developed dysautonomia after a ebv reactivation (mono). pots took a lot from me. the gym is just one of them.

i caught EBV at the peak of my fitness and i was almost in remission from my autoimmune disease 💔 i'm extremely mild compared to others with similar experiences, but i feel the worst i have ever felt in my entire life. it is so much worse than anything i've experienced before. it is worse than when my immune system attacked my brain

Thank you for your videos! Our society is so ableist, so many people believe they have immunity from disability bc they are fit… no one is immune from disease or a disabling injury/ accident

I was the healthiest and most active I’d ever been as a dancer around age 13 (did 5 1/4 hours of dance a week after school/gym class/etc) and that’s when I developed POTS. I remember everyone talking about how “allergies are worse this year”. It was when swine flu was going around. I wish I knew about masks back then.

Are you aware if there’s any research regarding what makes an individual more susceptible to long covid/POTS? I had thought that I was more susceptible because of diabetes (even though it’s well controlled). But if an Olympic athlete, the paradigm of health and fitness, can get POTS, no one is safe.

I’m really glad more people are starting to talk about ME/CFS, POTS, adrenal insufficiency and the many ways chronic illness can affect someone—whether it follows COVID or comes from another cause. Maybe it’s my algorithm, but it feels like awareness is growing, and that matters. Keep talking about it. 💛 💜

I think one of the most frustrating things is that temporary disability is literally only 52 weeks and permanent disability doesn’t pay enough for you to survive on if you live in certain places like the place where I live so it’s like I have to work but working could also cause me to crash so what do I do?
