Autumn de Wilde’s Emma remains undefeated as the only recent Austen adaptation that understands it’s an Austen story, not a Brontë one

Queen Brittania :
I watched it last night. I would give it a solid 6.5/10. The dancing was not spot on. The picking up and twirling and posing. It was weird. I really didn't like how Edward told Elinor he would leave Lucy if she told him to. That part weakened his personality. Edward's steadfastness to his morals is pinnacle to his character. I agree Col. Brandon was part was weak in this adaptation. Having the change to Eliza Sr. being widowed and partnered and abandoned by Willoughby changed things in the worst way. I have mixed feelings about this movie. They put modern elements in it and flaunted certain social constructions which is key to the period. Having Elinor and Edward exchange letters for example. That was something not done. It was the reason why Marianne and Willoughby were thought to be affianced. I didn't like how Edward when he visited did not involve the family. The rearranging of plot points was weird.

Took my mum to see it a few days ago. I was the youngest person in the cinema at 37. [Tears of joy] But we both adored the film. I thought it had so much spirit & heart. It didn’t feel modernised or Hollywood. I felt swept away to another place in time.

Interesting went with my four sisters. We all loved it. And felt it was better than 95 not from a cinematography angle but for acting we felt this was much better cast.
