I’m homeless and I don’t understand how terms like unhoused are supposed to be better 🤦🏽♂️I don’t need nicer names for my situation I need housing

There’s a gay, African American , disabled , Christian, self proclaimed Buddhist man in my class and he got offended at the use of the word “pale”

maybe its just me, but "unhoused" sounds like its diminishing the issue of homelessness

omg I go to school in salem oregon and everyone says "unhoused" they also act all weird when I mention drugs playing a huge factor in our homelessness problem, as if it's taboo to acknowledge that?? like I'm sorry it makes you soo uncomfortable to talk about the actual problem in this city, that kind of language just downplays the actual issues that people go through that leads to those kind of situations.

It’s more patronizing to call someone “friend” or “friends” instead of “person” when you don’t actually know them. It’s so condescending to talk about them like you’re Ms. Rachel or something

Why do people use the word “unhoused” as if homeless people’s biggest problem is being called homeless

In an MSW class I lost points for using the term inmate instead of incarcerated person. My topic was literally about prison inmates.

My hot take in the “super woke (woke larp)” circles is that using the supposed friendlier terms is actually just to sanitize the issue of homelessness and make the speaker feel better about their own status and inaction

because overly focusing on language allows people to pat themselves on the back and check woke boxes without making themselves uncomfortable by idk BEING WITH the homeless

this becomes 20 million times worse when you major in political science and have someone who likes to make inflammatory unfounded claims just to try and embarrass the professor.

I do understand how the label of “homeless” can come off. Especially since some of these people didn’t even do anything “bad” (hard drugs, drinking, etc) to get there. There are so many veterans who end up on the streets because they didn’t get support after they served. Everyone has to admit that homeless DOES have a negative connotation to it

I’m gonna be honest, I still don’t know why “unhoused” is the woker term for homelessness,,, does anyone have an explanation for this because I don’t understand how those terms are different in any way

At that point just call me a slur. Like unless you’re explaining homelessness to a child- there’s no reason to be patronizing

I hate when people sensor words that describe harsh topics because it’s supposed to make you uncomfortable to hear. If we try and make things sound sweeter people won’t take it as serious.
