@new.roundup: LeBron James Speaks Out on Helicopter Chatter Over His Commute as His First Sixers Season Nears LeBron James is addressing his helicopter travel. The 41-year-old NBA star is about to play his first regular season game with the Philadelphia 76ers. The Sixers and Knicks tip off on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m. ET. ESPN’s Kris Rhim asked James about teammates and fans getting “a kick out of” how he gets to work. His commute is a roughly 40-minute ride from New York City to Philadelphia. James kept it short. “Yeah, I’ve done it before,” he said. He called the helicopter “just another way of transportation.” Then he added, “That’s all.” James signed with the Sixers after eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers. Front Office Sports first reported that he would fly to the team’s practice facility using a Fanatics helicopter. A spokesperson for James told the outlet the deal he signed with Fanatics almost three years ago includes access to the company’s corporate aviation. The spokesperson said it is a feature in many of Fanatics’ deals with its largest athletes. They also said James splits his time between New York and Philadelphia. According to ESPN, the helicopter lands on a pad atop the Sixers’ business offices, right next to the practice building. ESPN also reported that Sixers owner Josh Harris commutes by helicopter too. Sixers guard V.J. Edgecombe told ESPN that James arrives at practice around 7:45 a.m., before any of his teammates. “As usual,” Edgecombe said. Is the helicopter a big deal, or just a commute? #lebronjames #sixers #NBA #helicopter #philadelphiasixers
