The Ontario visitor took Peachy from the habitat at the Flamingo Las Vegas and carried the bird to his hotel room on March 3. Prosecutors argued his handling caused the bird pain and injuries. The defense acknowledged he took Peachy but described it as a drunken prank without intent to harm. Jurors reached their verdict after approximately five hours of deliberations. Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 1. Peachy’s veterinarian told AP that the bird is doing all right physically but has become more anxious during evaluations.
