Seeing lights stretched out, smeared, or radiating lines at night is most commonly caused by astigmatism!! Normally, the front surface of your eye (the cornea) or the lens inside is round and smooth like a soccer ball. With astigmatism, it is shaped more like an oval or a football. Because of this irregular shape, light entering your eye cannot focus cleanly onto a single point on your retina. Instead, it stretches or smears into lines, streaks, or starbursts. When it gets dark, your pupils dilate (get bigger) to let in more light. This exposes the outer, more uneven parts of your cornea or lens, making streetlights and car headlights look dramatically stretched or fuzzy.
or this can be caused by dry eyes, cataracts, previous eye surgery,or eye floaters!!
