100% will be proven the data wasn't as clean or he fed it in ways that got it to say what it did

yeah, last I checked you need to run actual scientific experiments to discover something new.

I think because AI hasn’t “seen” anything, it can’t visualize what’s happening in a 3D world. Visualization is an aspect of understanding how physics work, even if the solutions are worked out with mathematics. So until AI is experiencing the world like we are, it will be somewhat limited.

AI can't discover something because it is purely a word/number generator. It doesn't understand what it's typing. So if you gave an untrained AI model 1+1 it won't do anything because it has to predict what should come next and nobody can do that

Novelty is misunderstood and overstated. Most physicists don't achieve breakthroughs like Newton or Einstein so it's daft to criticise AI for not doing so.

Reasoning starts with models above 10B parameters . So Yes AI will discover new things and theories not because it’s smarter, but because it can process much faster much more data

since 1899 was before the first electronic computer, i wonder what an ai would make of its own existence. freak out that it's a boltzmann brain? a frankenstein-like creation? a disabled human?

What do you mean by Built the AI from scratch? Or do you mean trained it from scratch? I assume the model or the algorithms and computational framework was borrowed from previous work.

depends what you mean as new. unused combinations of information are new, but still just information we already have.

Not to be that guy, but isn’t the vast majority of science just analyzing available data and reaching a conclusion based on that?

So, to prove that AI can create new things is to have AI create something we already did instead of something actually new? I think that's enough said
