A critical new security vulnerability named "BragJack" highlights a major flaw in how AI assistants operate within modern web browsers. Discovered by security researcher Gal Weizman, the technique allows a malicious browser extension to hijack trusted communication channels used by AI agents—including Chrome, Edge, Opera Neon, Comet, and Claude in Chrome. How BragJack Works Unlike traditional AI exploits, BragJack doesn't rely on prompt injection, bypassing model guardrails, or hiding instructions in web content. Instead, it uses a single malicious extension built with content scripts and the declarativeNetRequest (DNR) API to modify network traffic directly. By directly supplying commands to privileged browser components, the attack turns trusted AI assistants into unauthorized tools for data theft and malicious actions.
