@newsalert4u: Ukraine is continuing to take the war back across Russia’s borders. Reports from October 18 describe Ukrainian drone attacks involving oil facilities and a VK data center in the St. Petersburg area. Russian authorities reported fires, deaths, and injuries, while the extent of damage and the lasting operational impact remain subjects for verification. For those of us who support Ukraine, these reports are another reminder that its people have refused to surrender despite years of invasion. But supporting Ukraine means being accurate about what happened. A reported strike does not automatically establish that a facility was destroyed or that every target directly supported military operations. My gratitude is for Ukraine’s determination to preserve its independence and protect its future. It is not a celebration of people being killed. The responsibility for ending this invasion rests with the Russian leadership that launched it. A durable peace requires more than asking Ukrainians to accept attacks indefinitely. Ukraine deserves continued support, protection for its civilians, and a settlement that respects its sovereignty. I cannot speak for the entire world. I can say this: Ukraine’s courage has my respect.
