In the late '70s, Wally and his wife Olga found a quiet mountain valley along Little Creek and built a log home beside the water. The neighbors couldn't quite figure them out. The couple was always flying off to a second home in Florida, and they had built a house far grander than anyone expected out here. Then, in the fall of 1984, Wally vanished. He hasn't been seen since. More than 40 years later, people are still asking "Where's Wally?" There's a book about him (Chasing the Squirrel) and a docuseries named after that question, and they've turned his story into one of Southwest Virginia's most talked-about mysteries. His son has shared memories of playing in this very creek and learning to ride his bike on this very driveway. Wally may have disappeared.
