@timeless.mysteries6: Tearful Tim McGraw Is Inducted Into the Country Music Hall of Fame, Joking “I’m Going to Cry” Tim McGraw is officially a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. The 59-year-old was inducted on Sunday, Oct. 18, at the Medallion Ceremony at the CMA Theater in Nashville. He joins Paul Overstreet and The Stanley Brothers as the class of 2026. McGraw opened with a joke. “I’m going to cry because I cry all the time. There’s a lot of estrogen in my house,” he said. Then he talked about where he came from. He grew up in Start, Louisiana. He said he raised by his stepdad, Horace Smith, and the house “was a hard fire, but hard fire is how you make steel.” At 11, he found his birth certificate. It showed his biological father was baseball player Tug McGraw. They met once that year. He didn’t see him again until he was 19. “Seeing what he had done with his life, I just knew that there was something in me,” he said. He called his mother, Betty Trimble, “my rock through it all.” He told his wife, Faith Hill, “The only thing that can beat this night is when you’re standing here and I’m sitting there.” He told their daughters, “You’re the best thing we’ve ever made.” Parker McCollum, Lady A, and Lainey Wilson performed in his honor. Alabama’s Randy Owen inducted him. A bronze plaque of McGraw will hang in the museum’s rotunda. In March, he recalled arriving in Nashville on a Greyhound bus the day Keith Whitley died in 1989. He found a bar called the Hall of Fame Lounge. “To go from a bar called the Hall of Fame to be here in the actual Country Music Hall of Fame,” he said, “it’s impossible for me to believe.” He has over 60 Top 10 country hits and 29 No. 1 singles.
