I called a gay man gay over a year ago. I joined an already ongoing public conversation about the co-founder of a very popular company, gave my two cents, and it blew up in ways I never intended. I recognize that my comments were flippant, and I’ve addressed that before. But I did not have private information about this man, I do not know him personally, and I did not out him. And yet, what truly bothers me isn’t that he or his team apparently did not want me at an event. That is totally their prerogative. What truly bothers me is that I was told directly by someone at @Grindr that his team requested my removal from the guest list, and Grindr honored that request. This is a company I have supported and worked with for years now, and it’s deeply disappointing that I wasn’t extended that same consideration. But what I am not gonna do, and what is simply not in my DNA, is stay silent when I feel I’ve been treated unfairly, especially by a company I have done nothing but support for years.
