This abandoned mansion has a history stretching back almost 1,000 years… but it’s the dark legend attached to the estate that fascinated me most. 🏚️🌳 Long before the mansion you see today was built, these lands became connected with Owain Glyndŵr, the legendary Welsh rebel leader. According to centuries-old folklore, the estate’s Hywel Sele attempted to kill Glyndŵr with an arrow. The attempt failed, Sele was supposedly killed instead… and his body was said to have been hidden inside a hollow oak tree. Years later, the story claims his remains were discovered within the tree, which became known as the “Hollow Tree of the Ghost.” 👀 It’s important to remember that this part of the story is legend rather than proven history — but the estate’s connection to turbulent medieval Wales is very real. An earlier house here is recorded as having been destroyed around 1402 during Glyndŵr’s rebellion. Centuries later, a grand mansion rose here, surrounded by a vast country estate. Today, however, the contrast couldn’t be greater. When I explored inside, I found rooms filled with old furniture, fireplaces, architectural pieces, stacks of chairs and belongings, while other areas had been stripped back and were slowly deteriorating. The mansion is Grade II listed* and has been recognised as being at risk. I’ve deliberately left its name out of the video… 🏚️ Do you recognise this abandoned Welsh mansion? And what do you think of the legend of the body supposedly hidden inside the tree? #AbandonedMansion #Wales #Urbex #UrbanExploration #AbandonedPlaces
