*Blessed Daudi Okello and Jildo Irwa* - The Young Acholi Martyrs of Uganda. They are the two youngest Ugandan Martyrs, often called the *Martyrs of Paimol*. *Who were they:* - *Daudi Okello* (c. 1902 - 1918) - Born at Ogom-Payero. Son of Chief Okello-Ogik and Aciro. He was baptized 1st June 1916 at age 14. He joined the catechist school. - *Jildo Irwa* (c. 1906 - 1918) - Born at Bar-Kitoba. Much younger, about 12 years old. He was a servant and helper to Daudi. Baptized in 1916. Both were Acholi and were trained as catechists by the Comboni Missionaries at Kalongo. *Their Martyrdom:* In late 1917, after completing their training, the two boys were sent by Fr. Cesare Gambaretto to evangelize Paimol, a very remote and hostile area that was still practicing traditional religion and was anti-Christian. They were very successful and many people listened to them. This angered the local witch doctors and elders. In October 1918, during the time of unrest after WWI, the elders decided to kill the catechists. On *18th October 1918*, they attacked their hut. They told Daudi and Jildo to stop catechizing and leave. The boys refused, saying they had to obey God. Daudi was speared and his throat was cut. Jildo was smaller and could have run away. He was told to leave, but he refused to abandon Daudi. He said: "We have to die together." He was also stabbed and killed. He died kneeling in prayer. Jildo was 12 years old and Daudi was 16 years old at the time of death. *Veneration:* - They were remembered as martyrs for the faith, dying _in odium fidei_ (in hatred of the faith). - Pope John Paul II *beatified them on 20th October 2002* in Rome, as part of the Jubilee. He called them "the youngest of the African martyrs." - Their Feast Day is *20th October* (some calendars celebrate 18th October, the day of martyrdom). - Their major shrine is at *Wimunyu Paimol Martyrs Shrine*, Agago District, Archdiocese of Gulu. Their relics are there. - They are patrons of young catechists, youth, and of Acholiland. They are now *Blessed*, one step to sainthood. The Church is waiting for a miracle for their canonization as Saints. Prayer: _Blessed Daudi and Jildo, courageous young catechists who shed your blood for Christ, intercede for the youth of Uganda._ #creatorsearchinsights #foryoupagе #catholic #fyp #viralvideos
