The commercial premise itself is very wholesome. The PROBLEM is that the casting director for that commercial decided to hire two actors that were dating each other to play the siblings!!! That’s why the vibes are weird!

The thing is they were supposed to use a younger actress for the sister! Which would have made it 100% wholesome, no doubt. But they went with a similar age actress and the cute/shy gesture gave it a weird vibe. They should have made them be sarcastic to each other like real brothers and sisters are!

I didn’t really see anything wrong with the ad when it aired…WHEN I WAS A CHILD! When I saw it as an adult I my flabbers were ghasted! That commercial was WEIRD!

I wonder if OP is autistic? I'm autistic and I don't see most of the points that are brought up about this ad. Maybe a lot of what makes the ad like that is in facial expressions that we just don't recognize

nah I agree on this one. ironically folgers was a staple in cooking and drinking (we still joke about dads extra bold DEcaf coffee). commercial points out he lives in a diff country and is visiting home for the first time in a while. honestly looks exactly like most deployment situation family's where it's months to over a year before they get to visit for holidays. I agree western culture is so involved in porn that we got that "oh step brother, I'm stuck in the washer" and confusing it with actual people who enjoy being around each other. I'm more bothered by adults saying a kid is "going to be getting all the boys/girls when they are older" and the kid is 5. now I can agree there are waaaaaay too many ads that are sexualized. sydney Sweeney is a perfect example of that. in the folgers ad I think people are taking the "your my present this year" as sexual vs his existence there was in itself a gift since it's clear he lived on the other side of the earth. like nobody was saying the mom was sexually interested but got up the moment she was aware her son was home. idk, maybe ppl don't understand having family in further states or countries and getting to rarely see them because people have lives, work, and have to be able to afford travel and the time off.

I don't even have siblings and that commercial made me every kind of uncomfortable and worried for her safety. the reason men see no issues is because they are the predators. we know how much danger that CHILD is in and it takes a massive amount of ignorance to the world and what happens to girls in it to pretend it's acceptable.
