@timeless.mysteries6: SNL UK Anchor Mocks Shane Gillis Days After Backlash Over His SNL Monologue Saturday Night Live UK is taking aim at Shane Gillis. On Saturday, Oct. 17, “Weekend Update” anchor Ania Magliano, 28, brought up the comedian during the show. Her joke followed a news item about a Munich Oktoberfest ride operator who gave free cycling shorts to female riders. A photo of Gillis then appeared on screen. She said Gillis had caused controversy on SNL “by dropping the f-bomb.” She was referring to the f-word he let slip during a Dr. Seuss-inspired sketch. Then she called him an insulting name. PEOPLE has reached out to a representative for Gillis for comment. Her remarks follow backlash over his Oct. 10 monologue. It was his third time hosting. In it, Gillis, 38, made comments about what women wear to the gym. Dan Levy responded in an Instagram video. He said he was “speechless that something like that can exist” on television. “Women wearing short shorts to the gym does not make them whres,” Levy said. “It makes the men calling them whres, misogynists.” Others who addressed or alluded to the comments include former SNL cast member Ego Nwodim and musician Maren Morris. Elizabeth Banks, Laraine Newman, Sophia Bush, and Hannah Einbinder commented on Levy’s video. Gillis was hired as an SNL cast member in 2019 but was dropped before the season began. That was after past racist and homophobic remarks resurfaced. SNL returns with its season 52 Halloween episode on Oct. 31.
