In Norway we yave the official "change the battery in your smoke detektor day" on 1. December. The management of the appartment building i live in provides fresh batteries in the mailbox of every resident

In Sweden you’re allowed to change the batteries on your own. But I already had two smoke detectors installed and then one day the landlord was mandated to install new ones. When they came to install them I said I already had two. The installer didn’t care and said they needed to put them up anyway. I asked them if they could remove my old ones and use the holes to mount the new ones. That was also a hard no. So I asked if they could place them at other points in the apartment but that was also a hard no. They already had the correct placement. So that how I ended up with 4 alarms at the same spots in my apartment 😂

as a german, i do that all the time. i am not calling someone at freaking 3 in the morning when a smoke detector starts beeping in my apartment because the battery dies. everyone in my family does it themselves idk

Is that the same in the USA? I've seen countless videos of people from the USA with their alarm continually beeping through the video. I don't know how they can live like that

I changed my smoke detector battery myself in Germany. I’m also a certified electrician, so maybe that’s why the smoke detector police didn’t show up

this is factually wrong. plus it depends on the state of germany. bit of course you can replace the smoke detector yourself - however the landlord is responsible so there’s little chance he accepts yours.

whereas my sister's alarm battery got low so she removed it and put it in the closet of the spare room then invited me to live with her where i was driven insane for weeks bc she forgot she put it in the closet

I have no idea which state or district you're in, but so far I've replaced every battery in the smoke detectors myself.

that's not true - MAYBE if you rent and they are not doing it on their own. But even then you won't have to just let it beep.
